Dear friend,
My name is Dexter Tenison and I want to be radically honest with you. I am NOT one of those "skinny" guy, only been an athlete, can't relate to you fitness trainers that has never had to deal with a weight issue themselves. I am here to tell you I came into the fitness industry after fighting weight gain not once, but twice! My first attempt to successful weight loss stemmed from slowly gaining more weight as I was in college. You see, I was considered a "chunky" kid, one that always had to wear husky size pants. This trend got even worse when I got to college and I had no eating structure. Before my junior year, I weighed near 300 pounds. I honestly stopped weighing myself because it was too painful to know. With a year long teaching assignment my junior year in China, I had the ability to focus on myself and literally transform my body. My friends didn't recogize me when I came off the plane!
Old habits die hard and I slowly got back into eating only high fat and high sugar foods. My trips to the gym began to vanish. I got into the routine of working, going home, eating, and then going to sleep. Repeating this cycle for a little more than a year caused me to gain all my weight back plus some! At that time, I had injuried my low back and personal relationship issues just made things worse. I went on like this for a couple more months, but I decided that enough was enough! I knew I needed help, so I sought the help of a personal trainer. This person helped me stay consistent and taught me proper technique and the most effective way to lose fat and speed metabolism through exercise. Since I didn't really like cardiovascular activities, I enrolled in martial arts. This group environment taught me to stay accountable to my goals. Plus, all of the classmates and I became friends. We built each other up! About 6 months passed, and I had lost nearly 70 pounds on the scale and over 100 pounds in fat! The personal trainer took notice in my ability to help others while reaching my own goals and decided to give me a fitness trainer position at his studio. This was my life-changing event. I got to help other people do the same things I did that not only helped them lose unwanted fat, but become healthier for themselves and their loved ones. I loved it so much, I decided to get my master's degree in sports science, graduating with a 4.0 GPA, while getting to intern with some of the very best fitness professionals in the industry!
Here's the best part, I spent years literally helping so many people in the Memphis area. I decided I wanted to find an option that would reach out to more people and have a greater impact in their lives. That's why I opened Memphis Adventure Boot Camp for Women! Women are faced with the most challenges and still to this day, they are told that they shouldn't do certain exercises because will make them look manly or something crazy like this.
