Dexter Tenison, MSS, CFT, Owner
Dexter Tenison is the owner of Memphis Adventure Boot Camp. He is a NESTA Certified Adventure Boot Camp Instructor and ISSA Certified Fitness Trainer. He also holds a Master of Sports Science degree from The United States Sports Academy. His degree has deemed him a Master Fitness Trainer through his school, USSA, and he earned a 4.0 GPA during his studies. He also mentored under Juan Carlos Santana at his Institute of Human Performance in Boca Raton, FL. Dexter is currently pursuing his PsyD. degree in sports psychology.
Raised in a small town in Middle Tennessee, Tenison grew up with the same fitness struggles so many Americans face today. With little knowledge of healthy eating and exercise, he struggled with a vicious weight problem throughout childhood and young adulthood. Until I was able to arm myself with proper fitness knowledge and proven healthy eating techniques he was unable to beat the unsuccessful yo-yo cycle of pop culture quick fixes.
Once he learned that the keys to long term health and fitness do exist easily within anybody’s reach, I couldn’t help but share it with the world. It is my passion to help people find their desired destination of becoming more fit and healthy. He aims to unlock the secrets of health and fitness not just for the people who look good with their shirts off but for those who never believed it possible. My time tested programs boast 100% success when implemented!
As someone who constantly strives to grow and learn, Tenison sought out his fitness trainer certification and began working at a gym. He discovered many unethical flaws in the fitness industry that worked against the clients instead of for them. Seeking to find a program that set the highest ethical and educational standards in the industry, Tenison discovered Phil Kaplan’s Be Better project. “It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done for my business and my clients,” says Tenison. Living by the rule “Be Better”, Tenison practices what he preaches. “The goal is not to be perfect it’s just consistent improvement. Be better.”
Through his knowledge, personal trial and error and deep rooted passion to help others, Tenison has developed a program with an unequaled 100% success rate! “Every one of my clients receives noticeable results,” smiles Tenison. Working with many people who are not comfortable going to a gym where others might judge them or are unsure of their own abilities, he has helped transform his clients into the people they want to be. Humble about his success, Tenison takes joy in seeing his clients triumph. He has helped people reduce medications, reverse diabetes and overcome cancer as well as lose weight and gain strength. “People tell me I have changed their lives and I’m in awe of that,” says Tenison.
He brings over ten years of experience in the health and fitness industry and a passion for helping others pursue and achieve their goals while effectively leading them to a healthy more fulfilling way of life. He has a red belt (instructor rank) in Rantou Ryu Karate, has taught several kickboxing classes, and was undefeated in every single kata competition he entered. Dexter has been a guest on WREG’s Live @ 9, Fox 13’s Good Morning Memphis, ABC 24’s Midday News, and has been featured in The Commercial Appeal (and here). He has also been a guest for radio talk shows at WUMR 91.7 FM, Jason Morgan’s The Ultimate Body Blue Print Show, and Phil Kaplan’s Mind and Muscle Hour. He has had articles published in Protrainer Online Magazine, The Sport Digest, Supertrainer’s website, and The Lewis County Herald. He was also a co-author for the Amazon.com’s best selling fitness and wellness book, The Wellness Code. As part of Be Better, an elite group of personal trainers founded by Phil Kaplan, America’s Top Personal Trainer, Dexter strives to help his clients reach new grounds never thought possible though the principles of “Being Better.”
